IT IS NEVER TO EARLY TO PLAN FOR YOUR FUTURE
By Nancy Abramson

Many people dream about their future career, relationships and lifestyle sometimes these dreams change. Often people put dreams on hold, forget them, or stop believing that dreams can come true. Planning for your future helps to keep the dream alive and helps you attain the life you want. After you are clear about what you want and write down your aspirations, making decisions that leads to your future goals becomes easier.

Planning for your future helps to keep the dream alive and helps you attain the life you want. Making decisions that lead to your future goals becomes easier, when you get clear about what you want and establish a written plan.

Planning for your retirement early leads to a satisfying comfortable life.

I found that people who are active and enjoying their retirement planned in advance and made decisions based on interests and life values. What I observed about them was that they created a plan to meet life goals long before retirement age. They thought about what they wanted in the future; adjusted as their interests changed and made decisions that led to these goals.

Plans do not need to stay constant and can adjust to fit the situation.

One of my clients, Sally, (not her real name) was working in computer science during the hay day for computer scientists. She made lots of money -- something she always wanted to do -- and saved money for herself and her children’s education. She was miserable. Her hours were long; the job did not use her talents and there was not enough time for her children. She looked for reasons to take off time at work and sometimes let her deadlines slip.

Sally found another job with a new and upcoming dot .com. She used her creativity to design software products. She was momentarily happy but still worked long hours and had trouble with her teenage children. Then the company went under and she lost her job.

After losing her job, Sally became my client. During the interest assessment process, Sally looked at what she wanted her life to look like in 10, 20 and 40 years. She discovered her interest in teaching, music and acting. She envisioned her ideal retirement life and decided to start making decisions now that would give her the life she wanted.

Sally researched different career areas that would ease her career transition and use her current skills and experience. She searched for computer companies that create games, music programs, or computer teaching opportunities. Today Sally creates products and train customers. She has a plan that includes a blue print of actions which lead to her ideal retirement in 30 years. Sally’s plan includes activities that balance work and home life and provides options to develop music and performance skills and promote her talent.

Sally was wise to plan in advance. She understands that things can happen in her life that may change those plans but she is clear about her vision, aspirations and direction.

Adjustments will be made as life events occur.
